The Technology Enhanced Learning team has been working with staff across the university to develop resources to assist academic staff in identifying alternative teaching approaches and technologies suitable to their discipline. Along with the various materials, we have also designed a workshop to support this process. The workshops – aimed at department or subject groups – allows participants to reflect on their current teaching approaches and consider and how technology can enhance these chosen teaching approaches, either within existing provision or as part of designing and developing new courses.

Through a number of activities, participants are encouraged to:

  • reflect on their current teaching approaches
  • consider the use of technology to enhance teaching approaches
  • explore the balance of teaching approaches and use of technology across modules
  • develop an action plan of how they will enhance their teaching approaches.

So far, staff have found valuable the opportunity to reflect on their current teaching approaches,  identify teaching approaches that are or will be important to their students’ experience, discuss activities that might fit with these approaches, and discuss how technology could support the activities. Opportunities for next steps are discussed and fed into the action plan.

We are now looking for further groups of staff to take part in the workshop. If you are interested, please get in touch by emailing s.j.hepplestone@shu.ac.uk or i.glover@shu.ac.uk. We can customise the activities and length of the session to meet individual requirements.
