New look for the shuTech student blog

The shuTech student blog was launched last February as a resource to provide support and information on the use of technology to improve the student experience. It is student-led, with the content written by two student e-learning assistants, Holly and Andy, and it is aimed directly at Hallam students.

The blog has recently undergone a transformation for 2012, with the overall aim being to increase awareness to Hallam students. Look out for new posters, TV screen slides and screensavers around the university, as well as postcards at Helpdesks and advertisements in shuspace. The blog now also has a Facebook and Twitter presence, ensuring that students know that it is a resource aimed directly at them, relating to their education.

Increasing staff awareness is also an important way of reaching out to students; if lecturers and tutors know that the blog is a portal for students to find out about topics such as forwarding their university emails to personal accounts, accessing the Library Gateway on smart-phones, and where to find legitimate discounted software, then referrals to students are likely to become more commonplace when such issues are raised.

The forthcoming goal is to make the blog as interactive as possible, and to ensure that the blog content is responding directly to what students want to read about. Student involvement in post ideas or content writing is encouraged and suggestions from staff about helpful and interesting posts will always be welcome.
