Work Offline with Google Drive
There may be times when you have to work without an Internet connection – all is not lost. Fortunately, with Google Drive’s work-offline feature, you can create, view, or edit documents in these situations. To activate the offline feature, you’ll need a Chrome browser. Log into your Google Drive account via your Chrome browser, click the gear icon in the upper right corner and choose Settings. On the General tab, check the “Sync Google Doc, Sheets, Slides, & Drawings files to this computer so that you can edit offline” box. Continue working on Chrome when you do not have an internet connection and as soon as you have an active internet connection, all your files will sync.
Add external links from within your document
When you have to add hyperlinks to your document, you usually have to open a new browser and look for the webpage that you want to link to the document. Not anymore – with Google search that has been incorporated into Google Docs, you don’t have to ever leave your document to add a link. Just highlight the text, select Insert → Link, and type your search into the link dialogue box that appears. Google will display a list of matches, from which you can choose the one you want to add and simply select it.
The Web Clipboard
The web clipboard on Google drive syncs across all your docs, slides, and sheets. What’s more, it can hold multiple items at one time. So, when you think you’d need a particular chunk of text again, simply copy it to the web clipboard and retrieve it from the same place when you need it next. To use this feature, select some text, a drawing, or any other data of your choice. Go to the Edit tab and choose web clipboard → Copy to web clipboard. Use the web clipboard menu to to access all your saved data.
