Procrastinating? Let shuspace resources help you to study efficiently and effectively

You know it must be that time of year again when suddenly you prioritise tidying your room, alphabetising your DVD collection or uploading hundreds of last summer’s photos onto Facebook – it can only be exam period! Procrastination affects us all when we’ve got important revision to get on with – well, who wants to be trudging through a year’s worth of lecture notes when you could be researching cheap flights for your summer holiday? But is evading work actually a sign that you are struggling with a particular topic?

But help is at hand, in the form of the Resources for Learning channel, under the Learning Essentials tab in shuspace. Here is a collection of resources, from universities and other education establishments, aimed at helping you make the most of your time studying and avoid the pitfalls of revision, exams and assignments, as well as point you in the direction of where to improve your skills in specific areas.

The University of Kent offers an Assignment Survival Kit to help you break down mammoth tasks into manageable chunks. The Virginia Tech time calculator helps you to find out how many hours per week you should actually have available to study, and Learn Higher provides practical advice on overcoming the desire to procrastinate as well as interactive exercises to help you assess and improve your skills in activities such as proofreading, numeracy and research.

If exams are really getting too much, you can also receive personal support from the Student Services Centre – visit the Support for Learning channel in the Learning Essentials tab for more information, as well as further resources on revision techniques and stress-busting tips.
