Just like the Nintendo Wii did in 2006, the Microsoft Kinect for XBOX360 has revolutionised gaming once again with its controller-free interface. Using a TV-mounted webcam, players use motion and voice commands to interact with menus and games, without being limited by controllers; the result is a full body gaming experience ideal for dance, fitness and sport games, bringing the ideology of the Wii to a whole new level (remember when we all realised it’s possible to win at Wii golf without having to move more than a single arm muscle?!) The recent explosion of fitness games onto the scene could create new areas of research for students within the Health and Wellbeing faculty.
