The latest addition to Nintendo’s family of consoles is the first to utilise 3D technology, and without even the need for glasses. Uses stereoscopic 3D, the portable games console also incorporates features such as a motion and gyro sensor for smartphone-style tilt gaming, and a 3D camera. Over 6 million units were shipped in the first six months of its release, making it a challenging competitor for Sony to outdo with it PSP replacement, Vita, which is to be released in February. This technology is likely to get more and more sophisticated, resulting in new challenges for Games Design and Animation students.
