  • Awards will support students to participate in career development opportunities (such as attendance at conferences or courses) or to take up work experience, internship or networking opportunities with their career mentors.

Requirements

  • The bursary has been made possible through a partnership between Sheffield Hallam University and Santander Universities. As a bursary recipient, you will be joining a network of Santander Scholars across the globe.
  • We are aiming to fund 15 students with a minimum award of £500 but ideally £1000- £1200.
  • Award amounts will depend on the individual circumstances of the opportunity proposed in the application and are not likely to exceed £1200 per student business.
  • The fund will support students to develop the skills, networks and experiences they need to start their careers. Awards will support bursaries for students to meet and participate in career development opportunities and/ or to take up work experience or internship opportunities with their career mentors.
  • Awards will be prioritised for widening participation students and are designed to boost confidence, develop skills, develop students understanding of industry and open access to professional networks for students from under-represented groups.
  • Students may be asked to take part in Santander events and will be asked to complete a reflective report and case study of their experiences.

Description of the scholarship:

  • Awards will support students to participate in career development opportunities (such as attendance at conferences or courses) or to take up work experience, internship or networking opportunities with their career mentors.
  • Students can apply for multiple development opportunities, to a maximum of £1200.
  • Students can, with the agreement of their mentor, apply for payment for an internship. Currently all internships will be remote, but this may change if/ when Covid restrictions are lifted.
  • All internships should be calculated at least at national living wage level. Your wage will be paid by the employer, who will receive full funding from Santander. Payment may be weekly or monthly, depending on the employer.
  • The role must be of a developmental nature to allow you as an intern to gain valuable experience and transferable skills which will benefit you in the world of work.
  • A key part of this process is the production of a case study. You will need to keep a record / diary of your activities. You can use this as the basis for your case study, which is a compulsory element of the funding.
  • You should keep a reflective journal of your experiences, which will allow you to think back on which parts of the scheme. This could be done in a number of ways, including keeping a physical/digital journal, creating blogs or vlogs about your experience on the internship, sharing LinkedIn and other social media posts, or updating your CV/LinkedIn profile.
  • You should reflect on rewarding or challenging aspects, the skills and knowledge you have developed, as well as how the experience may have helped you to consider your next steps.

Additional Information:

  • Awards will be prioritised for widening participation students and the experiences sought should boost confidence, develop skills, develop students understanding of industry and open access to professional networks for students from under-represented groups.
