It is essential to create social, physical and digital environments that are strongly inclusive, promote respectful interactions and relationships, and meet people\u2019s daily needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 data-fontsize=\"18\" data-lineheight=\"20\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Core activities (to undertake in the first year):<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">Providing cohesive, engaging extra-curricular and curricular activities that foster a sense of belonging for students from diverse backgrounds<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">Auditing and enhancing physical spaces to ensure access to appropriate spaces for private study, social interaction, and relaxation activities<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">Building partnerships with student societies and student groups at risk of isolation or discrimination \u2013 eg BAME students; students with disabilities; international students; LGBTQ students; student carers; care leavers; estranged students and mature students<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Additional activities may include:<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">Auditing and enhancing student facilities to ensure access to: healthy food options; bicycle storage and sporting facilities<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">Engaging students in the co-creation of a \u2018code of conduct\u2019 on respectful communications and appropriate use of information and communication technologies in a university environment, underpinned by institutional values that promote inclusion and diversity<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">Ensuring all students are aware of policies to address discrimination, bullying and harassment and of complaint processes for redressing offensive, intimidating or discriminatory behaviour<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 data-fontsize=\"18\" data-lineheight=\"20\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Possible indicators of progress for institutional self-monitoring:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">Proportion of students who report a sense of belonging to the university community<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">Proportion of students participating in extra-curricular group activities<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">Ratio of quiet spaces for private study.
