{"id":305,"date":"2018-02-28T11:11:42","date_gmt":"2018-02-28T11:11:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/shaping\/?page_id=305"},"modified":"2018-04-09T09:46:43","modified_gmt":"2018-04-09T09:46:43","slug":"30-january-2018","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/shaping\/30-january-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"30 January 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Areas the board are promoting following the\u00a0January Board<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Christina provided a chairs update on the following appointments<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>David Kyffin to Head of Operations and Development, Hallam Guild<\/li>\n<li>Jaqueline Stevenson has been asked to provide extra capacity to the Guild alongside BME Attainment work<\/li>\n<li>Ailsa Hogg, Head of Student Communications (based in STEER)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>DFE Regulative Update<\/strong><br \/>\nThe board received a <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.shu.ac.uk\/departments\/bis\/pt\/PIP\/PIPW1\/Portfolio%20Stakeholder%20Engagement%20%20Comms\/SF%201-18-3%20Regulatory%20Framework%20for%20Shaping%20Futures%20290118.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">presentation<\/a> from University Secretary Martin Conway and raised the following points regarding the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.officeforstudents.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Office for Students<\/a><u> (OfS)<\/u>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>concern of the dilution of funding and investment<\/li>\n<li>weakened protection of the UK HE brand by HEfCE<\/li>\n<li>losing the adjustment period in the current HEfCE approach when looking at issues and seeking to understand. More immediate sanctions from OfS expected.<\/li>\n<li>The transfer element\/increased flexibility welcome<\/li>\n<li>Student Protection Plan will need to be reviewed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Committee Reports<\/strong><br \/>\nUniversity Recruitment Committee &#8211; Nicola Rawlins provided an extended update on the FTUG 18\/19 applications following the 15 January UCAS deadline, as well as the recent release from UCAS of the end of cycle data for 17\/18.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Technology Strategy Update<\/strong><br \/>\nThe board received a <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.shu.ac.uk\/departments\/bis\/pt\/PIP\/PIPW1\/Portfolio%20Stakeholder%20Engagement%20%20Comms\/SF%201-18-5%20Technology%20strategy%20update%20for%20pillar%20boards%202018%2001%20v003.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">presentation<\/a> from Richard Dryden<\/p>\n<p>The Board noted there was a need to consider the digital capability of staff, and some platform issues alongside the current strong robust infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>The Chair asked how can we help DTS to help us?
