1 Year PGCE in Secondary Design and Technology (Food)
We are very much looking forward to working with you and this document contains some suggestions about how you might prepare yourself for the course before the official start in September.
First, for some general preparation for learning to teach Design and Technology we would like to recommend some reading relevant to teaching the subject in schools. The following sites provide an interesting introduction to some of breadth of study in the subject. They are intended as a general broad introduction and on the course, you will also be encouraged to read texts more focused in your area of study, however it is important to stress that we see the course very much as a ‘Design and Technology’ experience. There are also some book recommendations if you are interests=ed the traditional and contemporary issues and debates. But it is important to state that these books are available on the course from the library and you may prefer to engage with them when you have started the course.
Design and Technology is a constantly evolving subject and it is important to understand where we have come from and where we are heading to. We have a thriving community of teachers and we advise you to spend some time looking at the Design and Technology Association website and video channel for ideas and inspiration.
