Bursary/Scholarship Information
Can I get a teacher education bursary? And how much would I get?
Teacher education bursaries are available for PGCE trainee teachers in certain shortage subjects. There are also Undergraduate bursaries available for final year teacher trainees in Maths or Physics with QTS, and a bursary for the final two course years for veterans who are training to teach in certain shortage subjects. For more information, check out the latest information on the Get into Teaching website.
How do I get the bursary?
Although you don’t need to apply for the bursary we will ask you to complete a short online claim form. This is so we can collect your bank details and check what you are eligible for.
When do I complete the online bursary form?
We’ll invite you to submit a bursary/scholarship claim form on or shortly before Friday 11 September 2026. We can’t accept forms before then as we need to keep your details secure.
What do I need to do next?
Check whether you qualify for a bursary by reading the relevant terms and conditions document on our Teacher Education Scholarships and Bursaries page. Please don’t submit a bursary/scholarship claim form until you are invited to do so by email.
What if I’ve been awarded a scholarship?
We administer these payments too, so we’ll need you to complete an online claim form. Make sure you keep a copy of your scholarship confirmation from the appropriate professional body, as you’ll be asked to upload this when you complete your form.
When will I get my payments?
We aim to make your first payment on the second Tuesday of October (and on the second Tuesday of each subsequent month). If you miss the first payment in October because of additional health or qualification checks, don’t worry, we’ll make your payment as soon as we can. Take a look at the relevant terms and conditions document on our Teacher Education Scholarships and Bursaries page – this gives you important details of the bursary/scholarship, such as the dates you’ll be paid.
