{"id":439,"date":"2015-11-30T10:33:53","date_gmt":"2015-11-30T10:33:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/quality\/?page_id=439"},"modified":"2018-09-25T18:11:00","modified_gmt":"2018-09-25T17:11:00","slug":"introduction-to-psrbs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/quality\/introduction-to-psrbs\/","title":{"rendered":"Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Bodies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">The University has a professional\/academic relationship with a large number of Professional Statutory and Regulatory Bodies (PSRBs) who accredit or recognise a wide range of University award-bearing and non-award-bearing courses.\u00a0 In some cases, statutory requirements are in place to enable the University to provide certain types of courses, for example in teacher education for courses leading to Qualified Teacher Status or in health for courses leading to registration as a nurse or physiotherapist.\u00a0 In addition, a growing number of overseas governmental, regulatory or statutory bodies now maintain oversight of University courses delivered at other locations in collaboration with partner organisations (e.g. the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation for Academic and Vocational Qualifications; the Malaysian Qualifications Agency).\u00a0 The endorsement of a relevant PSRB is, for many students, a key benefit in choosing to study for an award of Sheffield Hallam University, either onsite or at an overseas location.\u00a0 Academic staff membership and involvement with PSRBs contributes to the enrichment of the curriculum and the links between theory and professional practice enable students to develop their employability skills.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Management and Oversight of PSRBs<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">The University&#8217;s management and oversight of PSRBs has both faculty and institutional dimensions.\u00a0 At local level within the faculties, responsibility and regular contact normally sits with a designated academic link \/ contact for a specific PSRB (and with relevant administrative staff within faculties).\u00a0 Departmental Boards and Faculty Academic Boards are responsible for maintaining oversight of the accreditation status of courses within their own academic portfolios.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">At institutional level, Academic Quality and Standards (AQS) maintains oversight of the accreditation status of the University&#8217;s awards on behalf of AQSEC and the Academic Board and keeps a central register of all current accrediting bodies and associated courses.\u00a0 AQS ensures that accurate information on the accreditation status of individual courses is published in the University prospectus.\u00a0 AQS faculty teams may also co-ordinate joint validation and accreditation exercises as part of the University&#8217;s scheduled validation activity or may support separate review and\/or accreditation exercises for individual PSRBs, as required by faculties and departments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">Process Description<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000\">&#x2666; <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/quality\/files\/2018\/02\/Section-8-Professional-Statutory-and-or-Regulatory-Bodies.pdf\">Section 8 &#8211; Professional, Statutory and or Regulatory<\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/quality\/files\/2018\/02\/Section-8-Professional-Statutory-and-or-Regulatory-Bodies.pdf\"> Bodies<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The University has a professional\/academic relationship with a large number of Professional Statutory and Regulatory Bodies (PSRBs) who accredit or recognise a wide range of University award-bearing and non-award-bearing courses.\u00a0&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2779,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"class_list":["post-439","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"jetpack_shortlink":"https:\/\/wp.me\/P7uxde-75","jetpack-related-posts":[{"id":117,"url":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/quality\/","url_meta":{"origin":439,"position":0},"title":"Please note: Following an internal\u2026","author":"Chloe Corbett","date":"November 20, 2015","format":false,"excerpt":"Please note: Following an internal review of the University\u2019s curriculum and processes, this site will be updated during the 2025\/26 academic year.
