You might have heard on Radio Sheffield (<\/span>listen here 39:19<\/span><\/a>) a story about students from Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School in Dronfield winning the Sheffield Hallam University School \u00a0Prom Competition.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>The School and College Engagement Team hosted a celebration event in Hallam Hall (a prom venue in its own right!), working with colleagues in the Events Management subject group to announce the winners of this brand new competition.\u00a0 It was a brilliant celebration.\u00a0 The competition brought together 7 schools (Bradfield School, The Brunts Academy, Dronfield Henry Fanshawe, High Storrs School, Outwood Academy Newbold, Queen Elizabeth\u2019s Grammar School and Silverdale School ) who were asked to prepare a short video telling us why their school deserved to win the ultimate school prom. <\/span><\/p>\n

It was great to see such creativity and innovation amongst the student groups.\u00a0 Submissions were based around themes such Alice in Wonderland, a tropical Hawaiian extravaganza, a music festival, a mystical enchanted forest, a film inspired 1920\u2019s ball and a night at the Oscars! but the winning entry was on the theme of space and time – a night in the stars!\u00a0 What the panel of judges really liked about their submission was the passion and enthusiasm the students had about their school and the way the school group (made up of four students) had incorporated their entire student body.\u00a0 They were well worthy of the prize of a package of support (worth 5k!) towards their school prom which includes, support, advice and guidance from staff and students at Sheffield Hallam as well as consultation and supplies from local events agency Doub7e Seven. <\/span><\/p>\n

What we hope this fun competition has done is not only get the students excited about their forthcoming prom but also given them a useful insight into the world of events management and the opportunities a career in this subject could offer.\u00a0 On the night, we heard about the joys of events management first hand from Tramlines Director, Sarah Nulty, hearing about the pleasure they get from working hard to create such events and the reward they get from seeing so many people enjoying themselves.\u00a0Speaking to some of our Events Management current students about to go on placements in events companies in London and in the USA, you can\u2019t help but be excited about what such a career could offer.<\/span><\/p>\n

We would like to run this event next year and hope it will attract and inspire more schools and students to get involved so if you are interested, please do not hesitate to get in touch and your school or college could, like Henry Fanshawe School, could be looking forward to a magical prom night never to forget!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
