\"\"<\/a>One of the key programmes that the Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) Widening Participation and Outreach Team deliver is SHU Progress, a scheme which helps students whose personal circumstances might mean that they face barriers to going to university.<\/p>\n

SHU Progress (previously called The Compact Scheme) offers applicants to SHU additional support in the year of their application and beyond.<\/p>\n

Eligible applicants can include those who are; a care leaver or are care experienced, have caring responsibilities, are estranged from their family or have a disability.<\/p>\n

If you are a Teacher or an Advisor, you are able to nominate students to access bespoke support, including; a personal contact in SHU, exclusive campus visits, help with making the best university application, covering the costs of visiting the university for open days and events and exclusive emails that will include details of relevant additional financial or personal support.<\/p>\n

For students who are in or leaving care, are estranged from their families, have caring responsibilities, have experienced significant extenuating circumstances or are homeless or at risk of homelessness, the scheme also offers additional consideration during the admissions process.<\/p>\n

This tailored support has enabled hundreds of students to enter higher education at SHU, when previously their personal circumstances would have been a barrier for them doing so. This has allowed them the opportunity to continue their learning journey towards a degree.<\/p>\n

What should Teachers and Advisors do? <\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n

If you feel your student is eligible for SHU Progress, then please speak to them about submitting a nomination. We encourage you to submit your student nominations before they submit their UCAS application, to ensure they receive maximum support from the scheme.<\/p>\n
