This Thursday and Friday the Sheffield Hallam University Outreach team will be taking over the Winter Gardens with a variety of exciting, interactive and free activities for children over half-term and is asking them: ‘Have SHU got talent?’
Activities include mask making, creative writing, costume design, imaginative play and puppet theatre and will provide a great level of learning and entertainment. The events are aimed at children aged 5 – 13 years old and takes place on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd February in the Winter Gardens from 10am-3pm.
The event builds on the successes of previous community engagement events, including in November, when the team ran two days of bonfire themed activities in the Moor Market.
Serena Noble, Widening Participation and Outreach Coordinator said: “These are always such great events to be involved with. It’s lovely to be able to introduce children to the types of courses they could study in the future through fun, free activities”.
Feedback from the events is always extremely positive. One recent parent who attended with her children said: “It was a brilliant afternoon had by my family… superbly organised and loads of interesting things for the kids to see and do.”
Community Engagement provides a key opportunity to interact and work with young people and their families outside the formal school environment.
Children’s University Credits
As with all of our recent community activities, the event will be a Children’s University ‘Learning Destination’, where children are able to collect Children’s University credits.
For each hour children spend at a ‘Learning Destination’, they collect one credit in their passport to learning. The Children’s University passports to learning can be purchased from any Sheffield library for £3.50.
We look forward to seeing you in the Winter Gardens!
