“Ultimately, the story is about us. About who we are as Caribbean people and as citizens of the world”

– Frances-Anne Solomon.

Directed by Frances-Anne Solomon and shot in Trinidad, Ghana, the UK and Canada, HERO is the story of Ulric Cross, who left his small island home in 1941 to seek his fortune, and became the RAF’s most decorated West Indian airman. His life then took a different course when he followed the call of history and joined the Pan-African independence movement sweeping the world in the 50s and 60s. A stimulating and provocative docu-drama, beautifully combining archive footage with dramatic reconstructions.

We are delighted to welcome director Frances-Anne Solomon and lead actor Nickolai Salcedo for a special Q&A after this screening. The Q&A will be hosted by Dr Lindy-Ann Blaize Alfred (Senior Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University). This screening has been organised in collaboration with the Narrowing the Gaps team and the Academic Network for Women of Colour (ANetWoC) at Sheffield Hallam University.
