The pedagogy is organised around 5 workbooks. Each workbook includes these e-learning activities (e-tivities):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>Readings<\/strong><\/span> &#8211; a Core Text (2000 words approx.) outlining the workbook&#8217;s topic and optional further reading<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>Webinars*<\/strong><\/span> &#8211; Recorded online talks (1 hour) by course tutors on aspects of mentoring<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>Videos<\/strong><\/span>* &#8211; Presentations by tutors and guest speakers on key topics<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>Discussion<\/strong><\/span> &#8211; Explore your own and others\u2019 mentoring practice<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Case Studies<\/span><\/strong> &#8211; Accounts of professional practice in mentoring (videos)<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Quizzes<\/span><\/strong> &#8211; Check your understanding and identify gaps in your skills<br \/>\n* Recorded for playback at any time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each of the five workbooks (see <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/mentorshooc\/syllabus\/\">Curriculum<\/a>) follows a programme of activities (roughly equivalent to 4 to 5 hours in total per workbook). Typically this involves:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Introductory video (5 minutes) by the workbook&#8217;s leader outlining the topic and activities to be carried out, including: <strong>Core Text<\/strong> (a 2000 word &#8216;reader&#8217; outlining the main areas of the topic): <strong>Case Study<\/strong> videos and prompts; <strong>Discussion Topic<\/strong> on matters arising from the case study; <strong>Self-evaluation<\/strong> of mentor competences; <strong>Quiz<\/strong> to check understanding; <strong>Top Tips<\/strong> on mentoring practice; <strong>Further Reading<\/strong> (optional); and a\u00a0 <strong>Reflective Task<\/strong> related to the workbook&#8217;s topic.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Recorded<\/strong><\/span> online webinar presenting and discussing issues arising from the workbook&#8217;s topic (note these are recordings of the webinars that ran in SHOOC1, January 2017).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tweet Chat<\/strong> session (see <a href=\"http:\/\/janetfouts.com\/how-to-participate-in-a-tweet-chat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> for more information about Tweet Chats) discussing specific questions relating to the workbook&#8217;s topic (particiants need a Twitter account for this) and summarised using <a href=\"https:\/\/storify.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Storify<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/answergarden.ch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Answer Garden<\/a><\/strong> for the workbook&#8217;s topics (see <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/mentorshooc\/2017\/01\/06\/what-do-mentors-need-need-to-know-and-be-able-to-do\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">example in this posting<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Notes<\/strong>: All webinars are recorded for playback at any time.\u00a0 The activities and materials for each workbook are released at the start of the course and then remain available. Participants are free to plan to engage with the materials and activities at a time to suit themselves.
