Inclusivity and diversity are at the heart of everything Manifest Diversity does, as we are a huge part of the university experience as well as general life. It is easy for unaffected people to forget about little things that may affect one group of people more than another, but for those affected it can have a huge impact on their university experience.
An example of this is a lack of socialising without alcohol, if socialising events were run in more casual spaces without people drinking, they would be more inclusive to Muslim students. Another example is having more diverse members of staff and students running the open days and events within the Law and Criminology department.
When I was still undecided on which university to choose, I attended a UCAS fair. Unfortunately, I noticed most university did not have diverse staff members present leaving me feeling unrepresented and unrecognised.
Manifest diversity seeks to prevent issues like this all together, to contribute to a diverse and representative university experience for everyone.
