|Chris has been Vice-Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University since January 2016.
He has held senior leadership posts in universities for over fifteen years, as Head of the Institute of Education at Warwick University (2000–3), as Dean of Education and Lifelong Learning at the University of East Anglia (2003–7), as Dean of Faculty and then Director at the Institute of Education (2007–15) and as Vice-Provost at University College London (2014–15).
His academic expertise lies in education policy and practice; his work has been developed in fifteen books and over four hundred papers and presentations. He has advised local and national governments in the UK and internationally, across four continents.
Chris graduated with a double starred First in History from the University of Cambridge, where he went on to complete a doctorate in Geography. He was a teacher and senior manager in urban secondary comprehensive schools before becoming a university lecturer.
|Jamie joined the team with a long track record in the HE sector, with particular specialisms in widening participation, marketing, recruitment and partnerships. Before joining us, Jamie was Partnership Development Manager at Southampton Solent University, where he had responsibility for developing and maintaining partnerships with key feeder colleges and significant businesses — all from scratch!
Jamie holds both a degree and Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Reading, which is where he first became interested in the importance of HE in changing peoples’ lives and helping drive the economy. Joining Emsi gives him the opportunity to pursue that interest further, helping universities understand their local economies by using our data and tools, so that they can be even more focused on their goals of changing lives and

|Martin is the CEO and founder of Gradcore, a social enterprise focused on graduate employment and employability. Martin has more than 15 years’ experience working across graduate recruitment and Higher Education,
Martin founded Gradcore, and over the last decade has led a wide range of graduate recruitment and employability projects. These include running global graduate schemes for a range of large employers, delivering employability performance improvement in universities, and chairing the UK and European Graduate Employment Conferences. He also helped to establish, and still delivers, the award winning RISE ‘city graduate scheme’ in Sheffield.
Martin was a member of the steering group for the ‘graduate recruitment in SMEs’ report for the UK government, sits on the QAA subject benchmark statement group for English degrees, and has spoken regularly at conferences across the UK, Europe and US on graduate recruitment and employability.

Students attitudes towards education and training are changing. They are becoming more career focussed and consider their education as an investment in their own futures to ensure sustainable graduate level employment.
This session will explore how education and training providers can align the design of their course portfolios to meet the needs of regional skills and labour markets.
As Devolution is rolled out, universities increasingly recognise the need to identify their role as a regional economic developer and how, over time, they can grow this role as a regional leader.
Brief description of session:
Globally graduate recruitment and employability is changing fast. Long established models of graduate recruitment are being challenged and questioned, with technology enabling significant change in how employers find, select and develop talent. However, despite these developments large and small companies still struggle to reconcile the local/global differences in approaches to graduate recruitment.
This session will explore global graduate recruitment trends, examine how employers are changing their approach, and outline some thoughts on how education providers might respond.
