3D Cyber Campuses for Teaching and Learning

Louis Nisiotis and Elizabeth Uruchurtu

Virtual worlds are online 3D graphical environments designed to accommodate people, simulating places that are shared for multi-user interaction.

These tools can be utilised for educational purposes in the form of cyber campuses, to provide online learning spaces in which students can gather, share information, communicate, and participate in learning activities.

A cyber campus has been developed here in SHU, and this session will demonstrate the environment, some of its functionality, and capabilities to support immersive and synchronous online learning activities.
