Disabled Student Support

Who is it for?
Did you know 1 in 8 Sheffield Hallam students would qualify for support from our service? Many students go through university without accessing the support they are entitled to. Some people only find out about Disabled Student Support services very late in their course or when they are really struggling.  Some are put off by the label ‘disability’ because they don’t feel it applies to them. So, come and see us as soon as possible to see how we can help you.
We support students with
  • Autism spectrum conditions
  • dyslexia/dyspraxia/ADHD
  • long-term medical conditions
  • mental health difficulties
  • physical, visual or hearing impairments

What support can I get? – all support depends on your condition and your course. We offer
  • adjustments to learning, teaching, exams , for example extended deadlines, or a smaller room for exams
  • support workers – we can provide or help to apply for support workers such as a mentor for mental health difficulties, or a note taker if students cannot take notes
  • assistive technology – a range of equipment and software that can help with your study

How do I get support from you? – new students can register here – just log in and go to ‘Disability Support’. You can register and tell us what your needs are and we will get back to you or you can come to a drop in session. The best way to talk to us is often just to come and see us – we offer daily drop in sessions all year around with no need to book. Standard times are here

What support can I get before I provide any evidence of my disability? – we are introducing some support to be offered quickly – available as soon as you have disclosed a disability
