Student safety

We’d like to highlight the message below which was published by the Student Union yesterday: https://www.hallamstudentsunion.com/news/article/12118/Student-Safety/

We have recently been made aware of a report on social media stating that students are being targeted by criminals in the area close to Waitrose on St Mary’s Gate and the surrounding underpasses. We are currently working closely with colleagues at South Yorkshire Police both to verify these reports, and to take appropriate action with SYP Neighbourhood Policing Teams.

As always, we remind students to remain vigilant in and around the local community, to avoid walking alone where possible and to stick to well-lit, main routes when travelling. More advice and information on your safety is available through the Students’ Union website. On Friday 9th March, the Students’ Union are offering a free women’s self-defence class as part of our International Women’s Day programme – please book online through the Students’ Union website to take part.

Please report any suspicious activity to South Yorkshire Police by calling 101, and also to the SHU Security Team on 0114 225 2000 so that we can ensure appropriate measures are in place.
