This resource is aimed at all teaching colleagues who may be new to Sheffield Hallam University or who may be teaching a SHU course in a partner organisation. It is intended to give you a quick guide to six key areas of academic life at SHU. You can explore these areas yourself in conjunction with other HR, Faculty and Link Tutor induction and orientation activities. You can access the resources by following the links in the image or by following the ”Induction +” tab above, or “Show Links” at the bottom of the page. Click on the area you are interested in and you will be taken to a range of videos, podcasts, SHU documents and external websites. The majority of these resources are open-access, although some resources can only be accessed by staff with an individual SHU log-in due to technical reasons. This site will be developed on an on-going basis: some resources may be temporarily unavailable, whilst new resources will be added occasionally, so keep visiting!
Engagement in CPD activities will provide evidence for submission for fellowship of the HEA and the requirement to remain in good standing; see Dimensions of the UKPSF for more details. An example is Area of Activity 5: engage in CPD in subjects/disciplines and their pedagogy, incorporating research, scholarship and the evaluation of professional practice; other dimensions address Areas of Activity in your professional practice, core knowledge and professional values. This is a generic dimension and you may find that the activity also evidences other areas of your practice.
Remember to record your CPD throughout the year and use to inform your conversations at appraisal as you reflect on your contributions and plan for the forthcoming academic year.
The UK Quality Code for Higher Education (a brief guide) will also support you in developing your professional practice.
