Dr Dan Plumley, football finance expert from Sheffield Hallam, has comments featured in The Sun<\/a>,<\/strong> around Mike Ashley, Newcastle United’s owner, and his valuation of the club which he is trying to sell. Dr Plumley believes Ashley’s valuation is as much as double the actual value. Dr Plumley’s also spoke to North East media last week with comments appearing in Northern Echo<\/a>, Sunderland Echo<\/a>, Shields Gazette<\/a> and The Mag<\/a>, a Newcastle United fanzine.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Toon boss\u00a0Rafa Benitez\u00a0<\/a>has been scouting the Besiktas ace for 12 months and is considering a January swoop.<\/p>\n

But the Turkish outfit claim they have already fielded 10 calls over the in-form hitman.\u00a0Club chief Metin Albayrak\u00a0said:\u00a0\u201cHe just keeps getting better, the more he scores the more confident he gets.\u00a0He just keeps working and trying to improve. Right now, ten clubs are in direct talks with us.\u201d<\/figcaption>

The Magpies watched Tosun, 26, net twice for Turkey in a 2-2 draw with Finland – taking his tally to five in 11 games for club and country.<\/p>\n

Crystal Palace were weighing up a move this summer, while Tottenham have also been linked with a move.\u00a0Besiktas would likely hold out for around \u00a316million, with Benitez yet to learn how much he will have to spend.<\/p>\n

Owner Mike Ashley is currently trying to sell the club but his reported asking price of\u00a0\u00a3380m may still be too high.<\/p>\n

Current brand value, based on factors such as league standing, revenue potential, fan base and global exposure, has Newcastle valued at around \u00a3190-200m.\u00a0This is almost double that, so I would argue it\u2019s a high asking price.\u00a0It\u2019s probably also linked to what Mike Ashley has injected in with regards to his own funds and trying to recoup some of that, which is fair enough, but based on market brand values it might be tough to achieve that figure. – Dr Daniel Plumley, a football finance expert at Sheffield Hallam University<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
