{"id":776,"date":"2017-09-25T15:34:04","date_gmt":"2017-09-25T15:34:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/hwbstaffnews\/?p=776"},"modified":"2017-09-25T15:34:04","modified_gmt":"2017-09-25T15:34:04","slug":"e-cigarette-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/hwbstaffnews\/2017\/09\/25\/e-cigarette-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield smokers needed for e-cigarette research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Sheffield residents who plan to quit smoking have the chance to be at the forefront of cardiovascular research at one of the city\u2019s universities. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A new research is looking to recruit 250 \u00a0smokers to take part in a three-year study into the benefits and risks of using e-cigarettes to stop smoking,\u00a0with their progress followed for six months.<\/p>\n<p>They will be split into three groups \u2013 one using nicotine rich e-cigarettes, another nicotine-free e-cigarettes and the third nicotine replacement therapy from Sheffield\u2019s stop smoking services.<\/p>\n<p>Participants\u2019 cholesterol and nicotine dependence will be studied during the research. Their arteries will also be examined, along with carbon monoxide in their breath.
