Speaking about MindfullySTRONG, Dave said, ‘Inactivity-related diseases and mental health challenges are real-world problems that affect a lot of us. Our programme brings together practical mindfulness activities, associated philosophies and structured physical training. All activities are mindful – unlike most exercise programmes, which are often mindless. I’m sure there are many people who have inputted lots to it. I think it’s a brilliant combination . . . and a great name as well. It’s such a good idea having people join for different reasons. Personally, I wouldn’t have done it unless it had the mindful element. People are very respectful and supportive all along the way. I do feel as if it’s changed my life because I just feel so different now…it feels like this has been the anchor and I’m thinking now that ageing doesn’t just have to be the end of it.’ – Ruth

‘I think the mindful movement took me by surprise as to how useful it was. Two things especially cracked it for me. One was the 8 pieces of brocades and the other one was the shaolin walking. I thought if I, the ultimate sceptic, can get something from that, then you know, maybe there’s something in it.’ – Simon

‘The programme has made me not only more positive, but also able to say ‘yes’ to more things. It’s changed that mindset because before I’d think about things rather than doing them. So, I’ve signed up for a Sparta race, which is a bit like an obstacle race. My mindset is now “Do you know what? You should just go and do it.
