We offer training and supervision for those wishing to develop skills in (MI), whatever their experience levels or work setting.<\/p>\n<p>The combined introductory and intermediate workshop enable practitioners from a range of settings to experience the application of MI and develop skills and awareness of MI \u2018spirit\u2019, as well as micro-skills (OARS), and change\/sustain talk. It includes a three-day experiential workshop with an additional 1 day distance learning component.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Aims and objectives of the combined Level 1 and 2 MI Practitioner Workshop<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The combined Level 1 and 2 Practitioner Workshop will introduce, develop and evaluate skills in MI, exploring individuals&#8217; ambivalence to change from risk behaviours. The main aims and objectives of the course are<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>to understand and be able to apply the technical (OARS) and relational (spirit) components of MI, embedded within the four processes (engagement, focusing, evoking and planning)<\/li>\n<li>to develop skills in exploring a client\u2019s ambivalence and readiness for change<\/li>\n<li>to identify effective methods of communication techniques for initial and ongoing consultation sessions<\/li>\n<li>to enable counsellors to encourage clients self-efficacy and self-responsibility for change<\/li>\n<li>to develop skills within the counsellor that will aid the client to move through the stages of behaviour change including maintenance and relapse prevention.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Who should attend a motivational interviewing workshop?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>health professionals working with patients in order to reduce &#8216;risk behaviours&#8217; and achieve health behaviour change<\/li>\n<li>exercise and fitness professionals<\/li>\n<li>counsellors working in &#8216;addiction settings&#8217; such as drugs, smoking, alcohol and lethargy<\/li>\n<li>educators wanting to embed MI counselling skills to their curriculum<\/li>\n<li>practitioners wishing to become members of MINT and to work toward the Train the Trainers (TNT) programme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The training is delivered by members of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and the curriculum is aligned to the content recommended for practitioners and trainers in MI. The lead trainer, Dr Jeff Breckon, was trained as an MI trainer by Prof Bill Miller and Prof Steve Rollnick and has delivered the Training New Trainers (TNT) programme for MINT in Barcelona (2009) and Krakow (2013).<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Course dates<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>27-28 February 2020 and 12 March 2020 (3 day course)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Course fee<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Discounts are available for Sheffield Hallam staff, students and alumni.
