In a year that has seen the University undergo a full restructure into three colleges – from four faculties– and the formation of four new cross-disciplinary research institutes, it is a tribute to the dedication and hard work of staff that the volume of our research income and research outputs continues to rise.

The Research Centre itself has undergone change, not least with the retirement of Professor Nicola Woodroofe after 15
successful years at the helm. This is an appropriate place to recognise Nicola’s leadership of the Centre. It is a fitting legacy for her long-term commitment to equality and diversity (and the recent work of Dr Caroline Dalton) that the Biosciences and Chemistry / BMRC Athena SWAN Silver Award has been renewed for the second time. Athena SWAN recognises advancement of gender equality, representation, progression and success for all. The department/centre is the only group to hold such an award at Sheffield Hallam University and it is something we are very proud of.

As we look forward to 2020 and beyond, the BMRC will continue to engage fully with the University’s aspiration to be recognised as a leading applied university. To this end we have started new collaborative projects with both the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre and the National Centre for Excellence in Food Engineering that Sheffield Hallam University and partners have developed on the Olympic Legacy Park. I have also slightly realigned our research groups to support this aspiration and the newly appointed research group leads introduce their groups in this report.

I hope that you will enjoy reading this record of the centre’s achievements in 2019. We enter 2020 in a strong position with every confidence of another successful year. We are looking forward to continued work with our existing academic and industrial collaborators and let me take this opportunity to welcome potential new partners / collaborators who are reading this report.

Kind regards,

Professor Malcolm Clench

Head of research

Click here to read the Biomolecular sciences annual report

A message from Professor Malcolm Clench I am pleased to be able in my first report as head of research to report another year of success for the Biomolecular Sciences…

{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[21,4

post-4405","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-staffnews

https://i0.wp.com/blogs.shu.ac.uk/hwbstaffnews/files/2019/12/Biomolecular-Sciences-Annual-Report-2.jpg?fit=1028%2C624&ssl=1
ALDEWACHI, Hasan, WOODROOFE, Nicola, TUREGA, Simon and GARDINER, Philip (2017).
