The chief nurse at one of the largest and busiest NHS Trusts in the country has been named as visiting professor at Sheffield Hallam University in recognition of his contribution to nursing nationally and within the South Yorkshire region.<\/p>\n

Professor Chris Morley<\/strong> became chief nurse at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2018. Previously Chris\u2019s thirty-two year nursing career included seven years as deputy chief nurse for the trust before becoming chief nurse at The Rotherham Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.<\/p>\n

Chris is the professional lead for nurses and midwives at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which employs over 6.500 nurses and midwives across five hospitals and community services. Chris is also responsible for patient experience, safeguarding, infection control, facilities services, such as catering and laundry, and estate services.<\/p>\n

His role at the University will see Chris work with the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing<\/strong> to help support and educate the next generation of nurses going into the profession.<\/p>\n

Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing, Professor Alison Metcalfe<\/strong>, said: \u201cWe are delighted that Chris is joining us at Sheffield Hallam University as a visiting professor. Chris is a nationally recognised leader in nursing and midwifery and will collaborate with us to promote cross-organisational work in the education of our students, preparing them for future roles in health, and to undertaking research to improve the way we provide care and services.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kirsten Major,<\/strong> Chief Executive of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: \u201cWe are delighted that Chris has been appointed as visiting professor at Sheffield Hallam University. Nursing and midwifery is a fantastic vocation and our partnership with the University is key to ensuring we develop and promote the many opportunities available across the profession. Chris is an excellent role model for the profession and will bring a wealth of experience, knowledge and passion to his new role with a view to inspiring those interested in starting or developing a career in the profession. His vision and passion will also be invaluable in exploring how we take forward collectively the wider nursing agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n

Professor Chris Morley<\/strong> said: \u201cI am very honoured to be made a visiting professor at Sheffield Hallam University. The partnership we have between our two institutions is so important and has fostered many advancements in nursing practice and education. I intend to use this new role to build on this success and inspire existing and new nurses\/midwives to maximise the fantastic opportunities we have available here in Sheffield.\u201d<\/p>\n
