Susan Franklin<\/p><\/div>\n

SHU press release<\/em><\/p>\n

Susan Franklin, a former Sheffield Hallam University lecturer, has left a sum of money in her will to set up an annual prize for graduating students. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Susan Franklin Award will be presented to one postgraduate student from the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing at graduation each year.<\/p>\n

The prize will consist of \u00a3250 of book vouchers and, at Susan’s request, will be awarded for “research or work done by a postgraduate that reflects a joint approach to health and social care.”<\/p>\n

Susan, a former principal lecturer in the Centre for Leadership at Sheffield Hallam University, sadly passed away shortly before Christmas last year.<\/p>\n

Before joining Sheffield Hallam, Susan worked as a dental nurse, and then as a dental nurse tutor at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital for many years. She then joined the NHS training centre at Lodge Moor, Sheffield, which later became a part of the University as the Centre for Professional and Organisational Development.<\/p>\n

Susan was awarded an Inspirational Teaching Award in 2011.<\/p>\n

A further \u00a31,700 in donations has since been raised by Susan’s friends and family which will be added to the award fund.<\/p>\n

Dr Christopher Low, a former colleague of Susan’s, said: “Susan was passionate about health and social care and how integrating these two aspects of care can improve patient experience and health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n

“At Sheffield Hallam, she was able to share that passion with our students as well as leading and supporting research into how we can improve the link between healthcare and social care. The Susan Franklin Award is the culmination of her drive to support students and passion for health and social care practices and is a wonderful legacy.”<\/p>\n
