{"id":305,"date":"2017-05-17T16:15:06","date_gmt":"2017-05-17T16:15:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/hwbstaffnews\/?p=305"},"modified":"2017-05-17T16:20:08","modified_gmt":"2017-05-17T16:20:08","slug":"new-fire-marshals-needed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/hwbstaffnews\/2017\/05\/17\/new-fire-marshals-needed\/","title":{"rendered":"New Fire Marshals Needed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Would you like to be a Fire Marshal?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fire Marshals are a key part of the University&#8217;s fire safety management arrangements &#8211; would you like to be part of it?\u00a0 The University is always looking to recruit new fire marshals so why not volunteer?<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Do Fire Marshals Do?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fire Marshals have an ongoing, proactive role.\u00a0 This involves periodically checking your area to ensure that there are no fire-related issues such as blocked fire exits, doors wedged open or poor housekeeping.\u00a0 You will also be a local source of fire-safety advice.<\/p>\n<p>However, <strong>the key part of the role starts when the fire alarm sounds!<\/strong>\u00a0 You will help to evacuate staff, students and visitors by guiding them towards emergency exits and away from bottlenecks, out of the building and finally to the assembly point.\u00a0 You will then report to Security and assist with preventing re-entry to the building until it is safe.<\/p>\n<p>This is a very important role and we would definitely appreciate your help.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How Do You Volunteer?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Just talk to your line manager or your local health and safety co-ordinator and arrange to book onto a training course via Core.\u00a0 It&#8217;s that simple!<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;d like more information please visit:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/portal.shu.ac.uk\/departments\/srd\/other\/HSS\/Fire\/Pages\/Fire-Marshals.aspx\">https:\/\/portal.shu.ac.uk\/departments\/srd\/other\/HSS\/Fire\/Pages\/Fire-Marshals.aspx<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, please phone the Health and Safety Service on extension 6430.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Would you like to be a Fire Marshal?
