\"\"<\/a>Saturday 16th<\/sup> March sees the return of Explore!<\/strong> as part of Science Week @ Sheffield Hallam public events programme.\u00a0 Explore!<\/strong> is a family focused public engagement event led by the Biomolecular Sciences Research Centre involving staff and student from across Biosciences and Chemistry, Allied Health, Sport,\u00a0 Engineering and Maths.<\/p>\n

Lead organiser Dr Katherine Rawlinson<\/strong> says: ‘It is a fantastic opportunity for our staff and students to engage visitors in STEM, inspiring young visitors and disseminating our advances in research to the public. Holding Explore!<\/strong> in SHU also helps to break down barriers around the accessibility of universities helping people to step inside an institute of higher education who may not have previously felt able to.’<\/p>\n

Explore!<\/strong> offers interactive exhibitions and stands across both Heartspace and the Hertha Ayrton building. Visitors can learn about everything from fingerprint analysis to robotics and the use of STEM cells in spinal disc regeneration. There is also a programme of mini talks running over the afternoon in the Pennine lecture theatre. This year, visitors can look forward to Professor Neil Bricklebanks’<\/strong> talk ‘Super Cool’ exploring the curious properties of liquid nitrogen!<\/p>\n

Feedback from Explore! 2018 was fantastic and both staff and students are working hard to ensure that the event is even better this year.<\/p>\n

‘(I particularly enjoyed) understanding the relationship between science and the everyday world. Also hearing about research which could have a huge impact for the future’ <\/em><\/p>\n
