{"id":291,"date":"2017-05-17T13:13:51","date_gmt":"2017-05-17T13:13:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/hwbstaffnews\/?p=291"},"modified":"2017-05-17T13:13:51","modified_gmt":"2017-05-17T13:13:51","slug":"data-centre-move-affecting-it-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/hwbstaffnews\/2017\/05\/17\/data-centre-move-affecting-it-services\/","title":{"rendered":"Data Centre move affecting IT services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of its modernisation programme to improve efficiency and reduce running costs, Digital Technology Services are\u00a0moving one of its on-site data centres.<\/p>\n<p>This major work will take place from\u00a0mid-May until the end of June and will involve equipment moves which will take place outside core working hours wherever possible\u00a0to minimise disruption. \u00a0There will, however, be two major pieces of work which will affect the University\u2019s IT Services.<\/p>\n<p>On <strong>Saturday 27\u00a0<\/strong><strong>May between 8am and 8pm<\/strong>, there will be some periods\u00a0when no university network will be available as major changes are made to\u00a0the network. This means there will be\u00a0no access to email, Unified Comms telephony or Campus-based IT services including major University systems, such as shuspace and the staff intranet, for short periods while the work takes place.\u00a0 If you have a business critical need for access to SHU IT services during this time, please contact IT Help on x3333 (<em>quoting reference DC move<\/em>) so we can contact you to discuss whether any contingency arrangements can be made.<\/p>\n<p>Between<strong> 6pm on Friday 16 June and 8pm Sunday 18\u00a0<\/strong><strong>June<\/strong> there will be some periods when\u00a0IT services\u00a0are at risk as equipment is relocated.\u00a0 There are no planned outages for any of the major systems but please make sure you save your work frequently and make preparations so that you are not entirely dependent on IT services for any activity during this time.<\/p>\n<p>Please bear in mind that this work might affect the turnaround time of service requests as we manage the impact of this work on University business.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As part of its modernisation programme to improve efficiency and reduce running costs, Digital Technology Services are\u00a0moving one of its on-site data centres.
