The university has risen in the national rankings as a result of strong performances, including those in courses from our faculty and is a testament to the hard work and engagement with our students – thank you to everyone involved.

Full details are on The Source but I wanted to acknowledge that there were particularly strong performances in departmental courses in Biosciences and Chemistry, Allied Health Professions and the Academy of Sport and Physical Activity. In the other departments there were also strong performances but areas also emerged where we need to do some more work going forward.

Whilst I do not believe in chasing rankings for rankings sake in these types of surveys, the NSS does provide us with evidence and is one of the best indicators of how our students think and feel about the courses and their time at the university. These insights give us a great opportunity to reflect on the findings and look for opportunities to improve the experience and learning opportunities for our students. Over the next few weeks I look forward to working with colleagues in examining the results in more detail and finding ways to improve the students experience further, to ensure we provide a great university experience year on year, across all our courses.

In the meantime I hope you are managing to enjoy the summer and that you get to take a well-earned break.

Best wishes

Alison

Professor Alison Metcalfe, Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor, talks about the recently published NSS 2018 Results.
