The Disparities and Global Perspectives Research Group are\u00a0happy to present the forthcoming seminar: Inequality, Realism and the Capability Approach.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In this networking seminar, Dr.\u00a0Katie Shearn, will outline her work which investigates life-course, social and health inequalities through a realist perspective. \u00a0This work seeks to make explicit the cultural, economic and political structures that create health inequalities.\u00a0 The potential for re-framing social and health inequalities as capability inequalities is discussed alongside possible limitations.\u00a0\u00a0 Real-world examples illustrating the concepts are presented throughout, drawing on Katie\u2019s thesis \u201cDelivering positive youth sexual health services: a realist evaluation\u201d and current work looking at 0-19 services in Doncaster and person-centred care in Sheffield.\u00a0 Ample time will be given for discussion and networking.\u00a0 Lunch will be served from 12.30.<\/p>\n

Katie Shearn is the\u00a0cluster\u00a0lead for Health and Wellbeing across the Lifecourse within the\u00a0Disparities and Global Perspectives Research Group.<\/p>\n
