Sheffield Hallam\u00a0University\u00a0has appointed Professor Alison Metcalfe as the new Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean for the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing. <\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Professor Metcalfe is currently Professor of Health Care Research at King’s College London, where she was also Vice Dean for Research for seven years.<\/p>\n

After qualifying as a registered nurse, she undertook a joint honours degree in biology and psychology, discovering a fascination for science and the implications of the work in the laboratory for the patients she nursed.<\/p>\n

Following her PhD and post-doctoral work in immunology and biomolecular science, she started a career in research management in the NHS, before taking up a position at the University of Birmingham to undertake post-doctoral work in nursing.<\/p>\n

Professor Metcalfe went on to become a senior research fellow at the University and led the implementation of a nursing and physiotherapy research strategy prior to joining King’s in 2011.<\/p>\n

Professor Metcalfe will officially join Sheffield Hallam on 1 April.<\/p>\n

Confirming the appointment, Professor Chris Husbands, Vice-Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University said: “I am delighted to announce that Professor Metcalfe is joining Sheffield Hallam. I know she is excited for the opportunity to build on the faculty’s success and contribute to its future development.<\/p>\n

“She has excellent experience and has played leading roles in healthcare research at prestigious institutions. I look forward to working with her as we continue to deliver the priorities set out in our University Strategy.”<\/p>\n

Professor Metcalfe said: “Sheffield Hallam is a world-class University in a brilliant city. I am excited by the prospect of working with the Vice-Chancellor and new colleagues in the faculty and across the University.<\/p>\n

“The Health and Wellbeing Faculty is well established and hugely successful, with some world-leading initiatives and projects already planned including the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre.<\/p>\n

“I feel incredibly privileged to be able to help support these projects going forward and to develop partnerships across the University, city region and beyond.”
