Immunity, Endometrium and Reproductive Failure
The role of the endometrium is to accept the implanting embryo and abnormalities of endometrial function result in reproductive failure such as infertility and recurrent miscarriage. Despite a considerable amount of progress over recent years the cause of IVF failure and recurrent miscarriage is unknown in many cases and this causes frustration for both the clinician and patient.
Based on the extensive research carried out by Susan Laird over the past 25 years, this lecture will explore the possible role of components of the endometrial immune system in successful pregnancy outcome from a scientist’s perspective. It will also illustrate the importance of critical analysis of previous and current studies in the development of evidence based treatments which may be of benefit to the patient.
