{"id":845,"date":"2019-08-16T12:14:27","date_gmt":"2019-08-16T12:14:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/employabilityplan\/?page_id=845"},"modified":"2021-08-27T15:26:41","modified_gmt":"2021-08-27T15:26:41","slug":"career-readiness","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/highlyskilledemployment\/career-readiness\/","title":{"rendered":"Career Readiness"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;font-family: georgia,palatino,serif;font-size: 18pt\"><strong>Career Readiness<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">What is Career Readiness for Highly Skilled Employment?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">Career = my personal journey of discovery and exploration of self to inform choices about life and work <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">Employability = my knowledge, skills, graduate attributes and experience developed to enable me to achieve my career goals<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">The Career Readiness pathway is a preparatory and developmental <strong>career planning<\/strong> and <strong>employability skills<\/strong> programme to provide Sheffield Hallam students with the confidence to take ownership of their personal career journey and shape their future success.\u00a0<span lang=\"EN\" style=\"margin: 0px;line-height: 107%\">Career Readiness learning will be measured through the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/highlyskilledemployment\/files\/2019\/09\/Career-Readiness-Questionnaire.docx\">Career Readiness Questionnaire<\/a> (CRQ).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">What do I need to do or understand?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">To support the development and delivery of an impactful, consistent and innovative Career Readiness pathway in every course, each Faculty will have the expert support of the BESE Student and Graduate Employability Service and a Faculty delivery team consisting of the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Employability Consultant<\/strong>: managing and delivering the BESE Faculty employability offer. They will provide consultancy, expert labour market analysis and advice for Faculty academic staff in relation to curriculum design and teaching materials.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Senior Employability Adviser<\/strong>: providing specialist 1:2:1 careers guidance and action planning, employability support with a departmental caseload and working collaboratively with Faculty Academic staff to deliver Career Readiness pathway activities<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Employability Advisers<\/strong>: providing specialist placement and graduate job search advice to students within a department and working collaboratively with Faculty Academic staff to deliver Career Readiness pathway activities<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Employer Partnerships Officer<\/strong>: facilitating employer engagement with Career Readiness pathway activity and supporting Employer Advisory Boards<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">The Career Readiness pathway will have four key themes which will incorporate career planning and employability skills development, appropriate to each stage of study, as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>1. Develop self-awareness<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>2. Explore career options<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>3. Job-seeking skills<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>4. Professional development and action planning<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">Career Readiness ensures that work experience makes sense to students. It will build upon the existing good practice which is already embedded in many courses and therefore may not involve significant changes to courses where preparation for work experience, career planning and\/or employability skills development is already fully integrated and accessible at every level.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/highlyskilledemployment\/files\/2019\/09\/CR-academic-summary.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Career Readiness Academic Summary<\/a> provides an overview of Career Readiness themes to support further discussions with Employability Consultants and Employability Advisers for planning and implementation purposes<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abintegro.com\/members\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Abintegro<\/a> &#8211; a new support resource for students and staff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\">This broad, impactful and evolving resource can be used to support teaching and assessment through HSE related modules and beyond.
