Welcome
UPDATE 05.01.2021: Happy new year. We continue to maintain a safe learning environment for you all to attend timetabled sessions and working closely with our timetabling and estates teams to try and get other space accessible.
Our office is open Mon-Thu 0830-1700, Fri 0830-1630 but there may be ad-hoc times that we need to close for 10-15 minutes to help sort out a troublesome patient. We are still available via email to assist you where possible via our central inbox ! RWB Technical Request or rwbtechrequest@shu.ac.uk . Alternatively you contact us using the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of the page.
Our uniform page is up to date with both Pre and post Sep 20 intake log-in codes for our supplier site. We do have a small amount of stock also on site for pre Sep 20 groups which we can sell on to you however it may be better if you drop us an email saying what course you are on, what items you need, the size required and quantity so we can check our stock before you travel in.
Thank you for following the social distancing measures and additional health and safety precautions whilst in the Health Specialist Teaching areas at SHU.
Obviously some simulations may need you to be closer to people than 1m+, and possibly even touch others. In these situations you will be provided with suitable surgical face masks for this practical and possibly a shield if a risk assessment requires it. Gloves and aprons will also be available where necessary along with hand sanitiser.
Given the vast amount of equipment that that is needed for each practical, we do need your help in cleaning the kit at the end of your session. If you are using lots of equipment then it would be better to wear gloves and use alcohol hand sanitiser over the gloves once they are on. This should remove the need for repeated alcohol cleaning and UV serialisation which will reduce the lifespan of some items greatly. You may also be directed to bring some additional items which we would have previously supplied such as a pillow and towel for physio sessions.
Clinical Simulation Technical Team
The Technical Operations, Resources and Services Clinical Simulation team support teaching, learning and assessment in the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences. The technical team is based in the Robert Winston Building, which hosts the Simulated Healthcare Facility (SHF).
The SHF provides a safe, controlled and supportive environment in which students can study and practice before entering the healthcare world. Areas are designed to replicate specific healthcare settings allowing students to gain valuable hands-on experience and to develop skills and knowledge through simulated exercises.
The Clinical Simulation Technical Operations, Resources and Services team provides support for the Nursing and Midwifery, Allied Health Professionals and Social Work and Social Care departments. Our aim is to enhance the student learning experience through high quality support services. This could be supporting session delivery; creating web and digital resources; or creating opportunities for students to practice their skills.
