Making the most of National Walking month in Sheffield

Want to know more about Sheffield? Well, there is no better time than national walking month which happens in May. Many students are currently in accommodation looking for a motive to get out and about and I can join the thousands in saying I am the same. Lockdown has taught me to appreciate the wonderful parks and nature that Sheffield has to offer. So then, let me show you what the Steel city has to offer.

Rother Valley

It would be very difficult to ignore Rother Valley. The area is home to many activities including windsurfing, an aqua park and many more. To walk around the lake is one of the most relaxing methods to get away from coursework and exam stress.

The best way to get from Sheffield to Rother Valley Country Park without a car is to take the bus which takes 36 min and costs £3 – £5. You would get on the number 80 from Arundel gate which comes hourly.

Endcliffe Park

Walking distance from the city centre, Endcliffe park is filled with history and many students live in the area. Filled with woodlands and hosting plenty of events, it is a great place to meet new people whilst also meeting up with fellow friends and students.

Endcliffe Park Café situated in the heart of the park offers some amazing food. I definitely would recommend! You have to experience the park to fulfil student life in Sheffield.

Norfolk Park/South Street Park

For me, this is by far my favourite walk in Sheffield. I find this route more of an adventure which leads to the amazing South Street steps which overlook the city. Again, like Endcliffe, it is great to chill out with friends and watch the sunset/sunrise.

Norfolk Park has been developed over the years which have included improvements to the sports facilities and the construction of a new community building which includes playgrounds and a new car park. The park is within walking distance of the city with South street located above the train station.

So, make the most of national walking month and experience what Sheffield has to offer!

And if you’re not in Sheffield right now, there are plenty of places across the UK to get out and get some fresh air- check out these National Trail walking routes.
