Best places to grab a bite to eat in Sheffield

Sheffield is a vibrant city with lots of great cafés, pubs and restaurants. Whether it’s brunch you’re looking for or a burger you are craving, there is a ton of unique eateries you can choose from. Being a total foodie myself, I’ve visited (and re-visited!) quite a lot of these local gems, so I thought it’s time I share my favourites with you. These hangouts serve up some exciting dishes and I can assure you that it’ll get your taste buds tingling.

Tamper: Sellers Wheels
Located minutes away from Hallam Square, this New Zealand-style café is one of my favourite hangout spots in the city. Not only do they serve up great coffee, they also have an exciting breakfast and lunch menu. From all black burgers to luscious mince on toast along with a variety of vegetarian classics, their flavoursome dishes, full of personality are a foodie’s dream come true.

Not only are they great for gourmet coffee and food, they also dole up some delicious cakes and pastries from The Depot Bakery. Fear not, for those of you who are dairy and gluten intolerant; Tamper serves up a delicious Vegan Chocolate Cake! So, be sure to indulge in some great food and coffee and sample a little bit of relaxed kiwi café culture at Sellers Wheel.

Steam Yard
Situated in a beautiful silver works building in Aberdeen Court on Division Street, Steam Yard are known for their amazing coffee, yummy doughnuts and great vibe. They are always experimenting with their menu and are great at coming up with new, quirky, mouth-watering combinations. In the summer, their courtyard is the perfect place to chill with a good book, an affogato and a fronut (ice cream doughnut). I heard that they now have Kronuts (a croissant and doughnut fusion) on the menu, so be sure to check them out!

Lucky Fox
This American-style dinner is home to Sheffield’s best fried chicken ‘n’ waffle and freakshake (monstrous mashup of milkshake and dessert). Located in Division Street, Lucky Fox offers some scrumptious brunch classics and delicious burgers. Although it’s relatively small with only a handful of tables, the diner has a relaxed laid-back vibe, making it particularly perfect for a Saturday morning brunch sesh.

The Cabin
If you are searching for something sweet for breakfast (or even lunch), I recommend you take a trip down to Fitzwilliam Gate to the Canadian-style pancake, waffle and coffee house. The menu offers us the opportunity of custom making our own dish. You can chose to go for a triple layer pancake stack or a large waffle and then decide the topping you prefer. If you’re not one for sweet indulgences, they also do some great savoury options such as bagels and savoury waffles.

The Forge Bakehouse
Tucked away in the midst of Abbeydale Road, this artisan bakery produces the most delicious sourdough, continental bread and pastries in Sheffield. They use ingredients that are organic and locally sourced and refrain from using any additives, preservatives or improvers in their dough. Although the bakehouse is designed as a to-go shop, they do have a few seats on the side of the shop for those of us who would like to sit-in and treat ourselves to their breakfast. The menu is simple and includes three categories: French toast (best French toast ever!), granolas and baked eggs. You can also expect to find an ever-evolving range of handmade bread on their shelves along with a variety of handmade patisseries. Be sure to visit them and treat yourself to a delicious Portuguese custard tart, brownie or a doughnut!

HowSt
Conveniently located in front of Hallam Square, HowSt offers a range of delicious breakfast and lunch specials. The menu is made up of a variety of classic platters with a contemporary spin and includes dishes such as full English breakfast, macaroni and cheese and burgers and fries. Not only does HowSt have friendly staff and are great for a filling meal, they also have a range of sandwiches, salads, brownies and hot drinks to go. They offer a 10% student discount too, so be sure to go in to refuel between classes.

Caffé Piazza
Hidden away in the midst of Church Street near the Cathedral, Caffé Piazza celebrates all things Italian with their array of pizza, risotto, pasta and chef speciality dishes. The focus of the restaurant is richly flavoured and expertly crafted authentic Italian cuisine. The menu is inspired by the regions of Italy and Caffé Piazza offers a truly magical dining experience with friendly staff and beautifully presented, flavourful dishes. The ambiance compliments the food and great service and with elegant Italian music playing in the restaurants, you are quickly transported to the exquisite streets of Italy. You can also get a pizza or pasta dish at Caffé Piazza for just £5 from 12 to 7pm, making it a popular choice amongst my group of friends. They also have quite a lot of vegetarian options, making it perfect for a group of friends with diverse tastes.

The Harley – Twisted Burger Co
If it’s yummy burgers that are oozing with cheese, sauce and excess you are craving, the Harley is the place to be. Twisted Burger Co at the Harley mixes deliciously outrageous handmade, locally sourced burgers with their love for music, and their passion for pushing boundaries. Their menu includes heavenly burgers such as ‘Rasher’s Delight’, ‘Falaf-hell’ and ‘Jerk That Thing’ and fries that come topped with all sorts of lavish sauces and garnish combinations. This live-music bar also has a great vibe and is definitely worth checking out!
