He brings a wealth of business experience and personal discovery to working with clients and is an experienced leadership consultant and coach. Norton provides personal and corporate facilitation for senior leaders and their teams in the field of transformational leadership development\, with specific expertise and enthusiasm for authentic leadership and the practices of creating high trust and collaborative working environments\, as well as mindfulness-based compassion at work. Tea\, coffee and fruit juice will be provided. \nAbout DELFT \nDeveloping Engagement with and Learning from Feedback toolkit (DELFT) is an accelerator group to develop student engagement with feedback. The key interest of this Hallam Guild Group will be to develop student engagement with assessment feedback focussing on the student role in sense-making the feedback that they receive to improve subsequent work. DESCRIPTION:Principal Fellowship (PFHEA) – Hallam Guild Group \nLaunch event- ALL PFHEAs and aspiring PFHEAs welcome \nProfessor Steve McHanwell\, University of Newcastle – 5th February 2019- 4-6pm  \n(Refreshments available)  \nSteve McHanwell will be talking about his journey of developing a career through expertise in LTA. Professor McHanwell will also refer to his recent publication Guiding principles for teaching promotions (2018) co-authored with Professor Sue Robson\, which proposes a set of principles for the reward and recognition of teaching to inform institutions. \nSteve McHanwell is Professor of Anatomical Sciences in Dental Sciences at Newcastle University. Teaching since 1976\, he has extensive experience in teaching Anatomy to medical\, dental\, speech sciences and science students at undergraduate and postgraduate level. \nHe has a major role in developing the teaching and learning agenda of Newcastle University and has taken up mentoring and leadership roles institutionally\, nationally and internationally to support both junior and more senior colleagues to develop their own teaching and to advance the pedagogy of his subject. \nHe has been Education Officer of the Anatomical Society of Great Britain and Ireland  and Secretary General to the Trans European Pedagogic Anatomy Research Group of the European Federation of Experimental Morphologists. \nAt the launch event\, we will discuss the proposed programme of activities\, objectives and outputs\, to ensure that these meet the needs of existing and aspiring PFHEAs in raising the profile of Teaching and Learning at Hallam.

It will explore aspects of practice which can support students during their transition and facilitate their development as learners at University. The key themes that will be shared and discussed during the seminar include the students’ sense of belonging\, the importance of peer and mentor support; the personal context\, including previous educational experience\, the importance of clarity\, structure and setting expectations\, and developing a reflective practice to aid the transition to independent learning. The seminar will end with a facilitated discussion to elicit contributions from the audience. Participants are encouraged to bring their own examples of enhanced transitions and/or examples of challenges faced with transitions\, which will be discussed at the end of the seminar. SUMMARY:EthicsIR (Hallam Guild Group) Un-Launch
DESCRIPTION:You are warmly invited to the Un-Launch event for the Hallam Guild Group ‘EthicsIR’.  This group aims to increase awareness and understanding of the ethical principles involved in designing and conducting institutional research/evaluation at Hallam\, especially work with students.  Institutional research (IR) is “evidence driven approaches to decision making within organisations. Effective IR requires strategically relevant sources of reliable data which are embedded within the organisation. IR therefore includes research or evaluation conducted by staff or students on their own organisation” (Austen 2018).  In our context this includes the generation of student data\, institutional surveys\, pedagogic research and educational research/evaluation concerning student experiences in HE (e.g. Hallam Guild Projects).  This group is co-led by three institutional researchers at Hallam: Liz Austen (STEER)\, Stella Jones-Devitt (STEER) and Liz Chitwood (Students Union). \nWe hope to create a collaborative group of staff and students who are interesting in exploring and responding to ethical dilemmas in our everyday institutional research practices in a supportive and appreciative environment.  This Group will develop in response to the thoughts and ideas of its members.  This first open meeting (Un-Launch) is an opportunity to find out more about the scope of the Group and plans for the programme of work.  During the event you will also consider ethical dilemmas in institutional research\, and are encouraged to bring your own! \nThis Group is hopefully of interest to all staff (academic and professional services) and students who are engaged in research.  Please spread the word and let your friends and colleagues know! Demonstrated in this 21 minute video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jFVTCuSCOg\, this kind of teaching is a response to the international crisis in student wellbeing and mental health\, and statistically\,  it appears\,  in studies so far to remove (not reduce) the BAME attainment gap compared to controls. \nAfter this session\, all following sessions in this webinar series will be delivered by a different educator and/or researcher – each month:   speakers from the universities of Aberdeen\, Exeter\, Hertfordshire\, Derby and Anglia Ruskin will explain their experience\, tips and outcomes of embedding the micro skills of compassion into their own student group work –   in Business\, the Humanities\, in Nursing and Psychology respectively. There will also be a speaker on the current development of an affordable Virtual Reality simulation for training staff and students in the micro skills of compassion. \nThese webinars are to provide a rich demonstration of collective encouragement and practical back-up for any educator wanting to try out these easily-taught micro skills. All the skills are underpinned by recent findings in neuroscience\, clinical psychology\, ethnography and group psychotherapy. \nDr. Theo Gilbert SFHEA is part of a network of staff from\, so far\, 42 universities in the UK and elsewhere\, who are engaging with the above approach to group/team work for staff and students. DESCRIPTION:Policymaking and HE research can be worlds apart. Why is that? And does it have to be that way? Ant Bagshaw will appraise the landscapes of research and policymaking to explore this disconnection and identify what can be done on both sides to bridge the gap. \nAnt Bagshaw is a Director at Nous Group\, a management consultancy with a specialism in Higher Education. He is also an EdD student at the University of Sheffield and the former Deputy CEO of Wonkhe. He has worked for universities in policy and advisory capacities and was for several years a reviewer for the Quality Assurance Agency. He is co-editing a book on HE policy and public affairs for publication in 2019

DESCRIPTION:The launch will take place on: \n– Monday 22 October 2018 \n– at 17:00 – 19:30 \n– in the Atrium\, Owen Building at the University’s city campus. \nTo launch the Hallam Guild\, we are hosting an event filled with project displays\, interactive activities\, and opportunities for discussions. The launch evening will include welcomes from Professor Sir Chris Husbands\, University Vice-Chancellor\, Abdullah Okud\, President of the Students Union and Christina Hughes\, University Provost. \nThe evening will provide an opportunity for staff and students to become members of the Guild and to gain access to future opportunities and developments. The Guild is working to continue to build Sheffield Hallam’s University national and international reputation for world-leading applied learning and an outstanding student experience. \nWe would be delighted if you could join us.
