Supporting Excellence for Students of colour

Purpose of the proposed group
The group proposes to mentor and coach students, typically from Black, Asian and other minority ethnic groups as they negotiate the transition from study to work. Studies show that students from these groups often face the most challenges making this change – but are less likely to seek help via traditional modes. Consequently the purpose of this group is to bridge this gap and provide strategies to support this transition using a solution focused approach that focuses on the answers that individuals already have and works with the individuals to further develop self-regulation.

Objectives of the proposed group

  • To provide informal coaching and mentoring students to PG or final year UG, particularly those from minority ethnic backgrounds
  • To provide practical advice with career plans for final year and/or postgraduate students
  • To create a community and a sense of belonging within the University
