What you can expect from the DARO team at Graduation!

by Rachel Measures. 2 Comments

Graduation is just around the corner, and we’re counting down the days before our ceremonies begin next week. I’ll be graduating from the BA (Hons) English Language course on Monday and I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Since finishing university, I’ve been working in the Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO), and I can safely say that the team have a lot planned for us graduates! From receiving some free Hallam merchandise, to entering social media competitions, here are some of the things that you can get involved in during your time at City Hall:

  • Post your graduation pictures on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #WeAreHallam to receive a FREE photo print from us. Collect downstairs at City Hall
  • Pick up our Snapchat Geofilter at City Hall and Barkers Pool
  • Get your hands on some free Graduation 2018 merchandise
  • Enter our Facebook competitions to win fantastic prizes, worth £300!
  • Find out about what it means to be an alumni and what support is available to you after graduating

The DARO team will be based in the City Hall’s ballroom, and you’ll be able to find us by spotting the giant inflatable Hallam ‘H’ that you can take your celebratory photos with – make sure to come and say hello!

We hope you all have a memorable day. Roll on graduation fortnight 😊

What’s going to be at our Gift Shop?

During Graduation we have a stall in the foyer of City Hall, so that all our graduates can pick up something to remember your time at SHU. Each day we open at 9am and close around 30 minutes after the end of the afternoon ceremony so you’ll definitely have time to visit us. Below is a list of our top 5 favourite gifts:

  • Graduation Teddy Bears

We love these cute little bears! We have two bears to choose to take home, either Fudge or Rusty, our favourite is probably Fudge, although it’s a close call.

  • Embroidered Hoodies

Graduation exclusive! New for 2018 our 1843 range will have two hoodies that are great to snuggle up in and are the easiest thing to throw on whenever you need to. The hoodies come in 2 colours (maroon and grey) and are super fluffy and warm. Only available at City Hall during the graduation ceremonies.

  • Union Jack Mugs

These mugs are excellent and having the Union Jack (in Sheffield Hallam colours) provides the perfect balance between being British and a Sheffield Hallam graduate!

  • Class of 2018 T-shirts

White t-shirts with all the names of graduates from each ceremony printed on the back. The perfect memento of your graduation day!

  • Sheffield Hallam University Coat of Arms Pin Badge

These pins are a great little keepsake and look great on any coat or jacket, helping you show your pride to the world!

To see more of what the gift shop has to offer, please see their website here.

We look forward to seeing you on the day.

The Deadline is Approaching!

by Rachel Measures. 0 Comments

You have 4 days before ticket booking closes at midnight on the 26th October.

This means we are getting closer and closer until the ceremonies start – so exciting!

So far 6588 of you have booked your tickets, which is amazing! But for those of you that haven’t yet managed to, make sure you book your graduation tickets and your gowns before the deadline date; otherwise we cannot guarantee a place or a gown for your graduation.

To book your tickets, remember, you need to log on directly to ‘My Student Record’, go to the ‘My Certificates and Graduation’ tab (navigating along the top of the page) and then you should see a ‘Graduation’ container with a link to ‘Book Graduation Tickets and Pay Online’.

To book your gown (and photographs), you need to go to Ede and Ravenscroft directly.

Again, I repeat, ticket booking closes on the 26th October!

We can’t wait to see you at City Hall.

6 weeks to go before Graduation 2018

by Rachel Measures. 0 Comments

Hi everyone! It’s October! This year is just zooming by and that means that the graduation ceremonies are drawing ever nearer – they are only six weeks away!

We’re slowly gearing up for moving ourselves over to City Hall to set up an amazing two weeks of ceremonies, but more importantly, we’re readying ourselves for organising ticketing as the ticket booking deadline approaches.

You have 3 weeks, exactly 23 days, left to book your tickets for graduation. This is also the same deadline for booking your gowns from Ede and Ravenscroft, so don’t forget to do that too.

However, you can relax when it comes to your photography as this can be booked on the day – phew!

For those of you that are still awaiting results, and are unable to book your tickets yet – don’t worry! Your faculty admin teams are working hard to make sure that your records are updated in time for the deadline dates, and if for any reason you are a bit concerned, you can contact us at the Graduation Office on graduation@shu.ac.uk or 0114 225 5353 so that we can put your mind at rest.

What happens on the day of Graduation?

by Rachel Measures. 0 Comments

Many of you are now booking tickets for this year’s Graduation ceremonies – how exciting! However, a few of you are probably starting to get nervous waiting to find out what happens on the day.

So here’s a little bit more information:

We usually recommend that students attend City Hall two hours before their ceremony starts to allow time for gowning, photography and for finding their seats in the Oval Hall.

During the ceremony, students will be taken from theirs seats to the stage all in correct time.

The ceremonies usually last between an hour and a half and two hours; all depending on how many students are graduating. Therefore, we ask that students leave two hours before booking meals or trains after the ceremony, though you may need to leave more time if you are returning your gown afterwards.

Take a look at our short guide to find out more about what happens on your graduation day, or take a look at the graduation website here.

You will also receive further more in-depth information with your tickets which will be posted to you one week before you ceremony.

If you have an overseas address your tickets will be available, on the day of your ceremony, from the information desk two hours before your ceremony start time.

As always – any questions please take a look at our website or if you need to speak to someone contact the Graduation Office on graduation@shu.ac.uk.
