Booking your appointment

The pre-CAS appointments are conducted via Microsoft Teams. When you are ready for your appointment, click the link is below:

When you book your appointment, you will receive an automated confirmation email containing further information on how to prepare for the appointment. You must save this email in case you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment.

YOU MUST NOT BOOK MULTIPLE APPOINTMENTS OR ALL YOUR APPOINTMENTS WILL BE CANCELLED.

You can join the interview via the Teams app or using an internet browser. If prompted, please add your full name so the Adviser is aware of who has joined the interview room. They will then let you in at the allocated start time.

If you have issues accessing Teams, you must inform your Adviser immediately. You can email your concerns to hallamhelp@shu.ac.uk.

You do not need a Microsoft account to access the meeting room. If you do have a Microsoft account, please ensure the name of the account matches that on your passport.

Video appointments require a broadband internet connection of sufficient speed and bandwidth. If you experience poor connectivity during the appointment, you will be invited to rebook.

Preparing for the appointment

Test that your audio and video are working within the Teams app, or with your chosen browser, in advance of the appointment.

Please read this information to ensure you are well prepared for the appointment.

Choose a quiet place or try to minimise background noise by using headphones. You should not show anything which is too personal or informal on camera.

Please do not use a virtual background.

Be ready to start your appointment at least 10 min before the time you have booked. If you think you may be interrupted during the appointment, please discuss this with the Adviser at the start and decide how to proceed if this happens.

During the appointment

If you fail to join the Teams meeting room within 5 minutes of the start-time you will be recorded as ‘did not attend’. You will receive an email inviting you to rebook.

All appointments are confidential. Therefore, you must ensure there are no other people present in the room with you during the appointment, unless you have requested to be accompanied.

Appointments must not be recorded. Any attempts to record sessions without permission will be reported as a student conduct matter and appropriate disciplinary action may be taken.

You must behave professionally throughout the appointment. The Adviser can stop the appointment if they feel it is inappropriate to continue. The University Student Code of Conduct still applies, and students and staff should be polite at all times.

After the appointment

We will provide feedback about your interview to our Admissions team. If successful, you will receive your CAS within 2 weeks of the interview.

Rearranging appointments

You can cancel or rearrange your original appointment by clicking on the relevant link in the email confirmation you receive when you first book. Please do not book a second appointment before cancelling any existing appointments.

On occasion, due to unforeseen circumstances, we may need to rearrange your appointment. In most cases, we will offer you a replacement appointment very close to your original date or time. Please note that the appointment may be on an earlier date or time, so make sure you note the amended time in your calendar so you don’t miss the rearranged appointment.

Second appointments

Please note that if you miss or fail your first appointment, you may not be offered another one. Second appointments are offered only if there is capacity in the service. If you are offered one, you are likely to have to wait between 4-6 weeks.
