But there&#8217;s no need to panic; getting your preparation right and using the right tools and resources will make your life easier.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333\">We like this\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/student\/student-life\/top-10-revision-tips-for-your-final-or-firstyear-exams-8576161.html\"><strong style=\"font-style: inherit\">exam hints and tips article<\/strong><\/a><a style=\"font-weight: inherit;font-style: inherit;color: #1b8be0\" href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/student\/student-life\/top-10-revision-tips-for-your-final-or-firstyear-exams-8576161.html\">\u00a0<\/a>from the Independent. It&#8217;s talking about Easter exams, but that doesn&#8217;t matter, the ideas will work well in January too! There&#8217;s lots\u00a0of great tips here about organising and looking after yourself in the run up to the exam period.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333\">It might also be useful to you to know what tools and resources are available to help you with\u00a0your exam preparation:<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333\">You might find that the\u00a0<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;color: inherit\">Library Gateway<\/strong>\u00a0useful. This online resource brings together all the different search tools you might need to find your way round the physical and electronic collections in the SHU library and you can find it at:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/library.shu.ac.uk\"><strong style=\"font-style: inherit;color: inherit\">http:\/\/library.shu.ac.uk<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333\">You can also access\u00a0<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;color: inherit\">subject guides<\/strong>\u00a0which introduce students to the books, journal articles and news items relevant to their subject area. Throughout the next semester you may also be interested in attending an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/students.shu.ac.uk\/shuspacecontent\/lc\/study-skills-workshops\" target=\"_blank\"><strong style=\"font-style: inherit\">academic skills workshop<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0as these cover a variety of study-related topics.<\/p>\n<p>As a student at SHU you are also automatically enrolled on the new Blackboard organisation Academic skills resources (2014\/15) which includes My Study Skills: the toolkit.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/shuspace.shu.ac.uk\/webapps\/portal\/frameset.jsp?tab_tab_group_id=_102_1&amp;url=%2Fwebapps%2Fblackboard%2Fexecute%2Flauncher%3Ftype%3dCourse%26id%3d_289978_1%26url=\">Academic skills resources<\/a><\/strong> Blackboard organisation contains<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>My Study Skills: the toolkit (a SHU online resource available this academic year to July 2015)<\/li>\n<li>skills4studycampus (which has a section on exam skills)<\/li>\n<li>links to recommended free resources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The first time you go to skills4studycampus you have to register \u2013 this is to set up your personal account so that you can see your progress, go back to where you left off and add notes in \u2018my journal\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333\">Finally, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/students.shu.ac.uk\/shuspacecontent\/wellbeing\/student-wellbeing-service\"><strong style=\"font-style: inherit;color: inherit\">Student Wellbeing Service<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0can offer you lots of support around dealing with stress. They have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/students.shu.ac.uk\/shuspacecontent\/wellbeing\/self-help-resources\"><strong style=\"font-style: inherit;color: inherit\">self-help resources<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0available and can also see you in a one-to-one or a group setting. They run\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/students.shu.ac.uk\/shuspacecontent\/wellbeing\/student-wellbeing-workshops\"><strong style=\"font-style: inherit;color: inherit\">group sessions<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0on areas such as mindfulness and relaxation which many people find helpful.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333\">We hope this is useful for you and will help you to feel prepared as we move towards the January exams.
