Become a language assistant in Canada!

Why choose Canada?

  • You’ll get to live in Quebec, which offers a unique opportunity to experience a French-speaking region in a North American setting
  • It’s also the largest Canadian province and offers a diversity of settings, from rural snowscapes to the European-style capital Quebec City
  • You’ll be able to travel to other parts of Canada and potentially the United States, to cities such as New York or Boston.

Read about Laura Gardner’s experience of being a Language Assistant in Canada.

Posts are available in primary (pupils aged 6-11) and secondary (pupils aged 12-17) schools along with a small number of posts in adult education centres for undergraduates and graduates. Focusing mainly on spoken English, you’ll help the teacher bring the language to life. You will work either with the class teacher or on your own or with groups of between two and 15 pupils.

The general terms of a placement in Canada are:

Dates of appointment: 1 September – 31 May

Hours: 18 per week

Pay: around CAN$1,700 per month net

A full medical examination is necessary as part of the work permit application procedure. You will have to pay between £200 and £300 for this.
