Kelham Island Museum<\/p><\/div>\n

In keeping with the traditions of the Global Brand Conference,\u00a0the 15th edition will feature\u00a0a cultural evening and social event on the first evening (Tuesday 13th May 2020).\u00a0It will be held at Kelham Island, the heart of Sheffield’s industrial heritage and now a symbol of transformative change within the city.<\/p>\n

Kelham Island – transformative change<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Manmade Kelham Island was formed in the 1100s, when a stream was diverted to power a nearby mill. Now that much of the industrial activity has moved on, the area has been transformed into one of the most exciting parts of Sheffield’s urban landscape.<\/p>\n

One of the few remaining revolutionary Bessemer Converters in the world<\/p><\/div>\n

The remains of the numerous cutlery and steel works, factories and workshops gives the area its distinct charm.\u00a0Nowadays these buildings morph into houses, independent shops, microbreweries and galleries.<\/p>\n

With its iconic Bessemer Converter and Europe\u2019s largest working steam engine,\u00a0Kelham Island Museum<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0stands a proud reminder of Sheffield\u2019s industrial steel city heritage.<\/p>\n

Sheffield\u2019s proud history of beer goes hand in hand with its industry. Small but numerous breweries formed during the industrial revolution, providing refreshment to men in factories. So it\u2019s not surprising that Kelham Island has long been at the forefront of Sheffield’s brewing reputation.\u00a0It has become a mecca for renowned real ale pubs such as the\u00a0Kelham Island Tavern<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0The Fat Cat<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0The Riverside<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Gardener\u2019s Rest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Alongside great beer, great food has also become a staple of the area.\u00a0Peddler<\/strong><\/a>, a monthly street food night market runs in a warehouse, while restaurants such as\u00a0J\u00f6ro<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(housed in a shipping container) and\u00a0The Milestone<\/strong><\/a> offer some of the most innovative menus in the city. The Cutlery Works<\/strong><\/a> is the largest independent food hall in Northern England, housing many food\/drink outlets and semi-permanent pop-ups,\u00a0to offer a unique dining experience.<\/p>\n
