Working to reduce our environmental impact
Sheffield Hallam University is committed to being a leading higher education institute in environmental sustainability. The masterplan will support this ambition by:
- Maintaining the balance between financial viability, reducing environmental impact and enhancing the wellbeing of our internal and external community
- Management of our environmental impacts, particularly in relation to energy, water, waste, transport, carbon emissions and the use of natural and hazardous materials
- Commitment to reduce pollution from our activities and as a minimum to satisfy relevant legal and regulatory requirements
- Improving the environmental performance of our estate planning and development including supporting biodiversity
- Ensuring fair and equitable treatment of all its stakeholders
- Providing, supporting and encouraging sound working conditions and wellbeing of staff, customers and contractors
- Ensuring sustainability in our supply chain through procurement and investment activities, including maintaining Fair Trade status
- Social responsibility in relation to the operational impact of our activities and that of our students in the local community
- Incorporating sustainable development principles in some areas of our curriculum, research, knowledge transfer and development activities
- Raising awareness of sustainable development and the contribution that can be made by our staff, students, business contacts and partners
