The Atrium roof is leaking and needs replacing. So that this can happen, the whole Atrium space needs closing for approximately a year. To minimise long-term disruption and make best use of the closure, masterplan works that were scheduled for phase 2 will be brought forward and the whole Atrium will be refurbished as part of the project. This is a great opportunity to transform the space and create a modern and vibrant yet tranquil area at the heart of the University. It will signal our commitment to investing in our campus – and staff and students will be able to enjoy the new space in advance of new buildings which are being developed

The refurbishment is due to commence on site in early 2020, with completion due by February 2021. The work will include replacement of the roof, better lighting and enhanced insulation to make it a more comfortable space to sit and work or socialise. There will be new catering outlets in the Heartspace and Cutting Edge areas, and attractive finishes to walls, floors and circulation areas, along with upgraded fire protection.

While the refurbishment will inevitably have an impact on operations once it is underway, we will minimise this as far as possible by working closely with stakeholders and providing alternative catering and meeting spaces. Estates are currently working with stakeholders to identify all potential impacts of the project during the works and identify ways to mitigate these and manage them as best as possible.

If you have any concerns about the impacts of this work, please contact the project manager, John McNamara.
